Chorio

The settlement that starts where Gialos ends and continues spreading from the top of the hill in the quieter parts of the island, is the Chorio. Chorio was built up for protection from pirates and the walls of the houses together function as a single wall. It is the oldest residential area with many narrow streets and picturesque houses mainly classical. In the narrow streets are the first houses built in the traditional Aegean architecture, but also very important churches such as the Megali Panagia of the Castle, the Panagia Charitomeni, Ag. Nikolas etc
